Keystone Steering Committee Presidential speech created and recited by, the 2008-2009 Keystone Steering Committee President, Justin Hankerson, of the Dr. Reitman Boys & Girls Club of Broward County.
To our former President, Miss Kimberly Scott, to all the distinguished members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County, to our Board that goes above and beyond the call of duty to assist in our endeavors, to all the wonderful Keystone advisors, to our steering committee and most welcomed and honored guests; Good evening my name is Justin Hankerson and I am a humble member of the Dr. Reitman Boys & Girls Club, and the current president of our Keystone club. The Boys &Girls Clubs mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens, and here at the Dr. Reitman Boys & Girls Club that is exactly what we do. From assisting in a mock presidential debate, and assisting in an international AIDS convention, to planning, collaborating, and implementing our own HIV/AIDS awareness day, we are taking our Keystone club to the next level and helping teens realize they are the future and must one day lead this great country that we live in. Some prime examples of how we have done this are participating in voting rallies with "Operation Big Vote" that informed different communities around Broward the importance of voting. We also have created the "Hero" program at our club, which allows successful alumni of the club to share their life stories and motivate our members to being successful in the future. You might be asking yourself what is my role in all of this, and the answer is I was leading! Being the face of the teens here at my club, attending every community service event and recruiting members to come along, I was leading. In the past, applying for and receiving grants to help better my club and community, I was leading. Overseeing three consecutive Keystone terms, where I raised thousands of dollars and devoted countless hours to my club to ensure its success, I was leading, I know I am well qualified to be the president of this years steering committee, and I know I can lead us to a successful year, filled with fun and knowledge needed to keep teens involved in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. I know what I can do, but now it is up to you to trust in my abilities as a leader and believe that I can get the job done. So in my closing, I want to leave you with some encouraging words. "I AM BECAUSE WE ARE, AND BECAUSE WE ARE, THEREFORE, I AM. WITH YOU I CAN DO ALL THINGS, WITHOUT YOU I CAN DO NOTHING".
