Florida Panthers Summer Cats Program

For the second summer in a row, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County hosted the Florida Panthers Summer Cats Program at all 12 Club locations throughout Broward. Clubs received all the supplies necessary to implement the hockey program in the Clubs including hockey sticks, pucks, goals and protective gear. Members practiced throughout the summer for the culminating event of the program, the Summer Cats Youth Floorball Playoffs held at the BB&T Center in Sunrise.

BGCBC Awards Scholarships to 20 College Bound Members

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County celebrated 20 exceptional young men and women during the Annual Scholarship Dinner on Wednesday, August 12 at the Embassy Suites in Fort Lauderdale. Recipients are planning to attend Florida International University, Broward College, Alverno University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Duke University and the University of Florida.

The 2017 Career Launch – A Day at Broward College, hosted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, exposed over 270 teen Club Members to the educational opportunities at Broward College – North Campus. During the event, teen Club Members were greeted by Dr. Avis Proctor, the President of Broward College – North Campus. Dr. Proctor told the Club Members about the importance of education in general and the benefits of attending Broward College in particular.

BGCBC Summer Enrichment Programs celebrated the culmination of another successful 10 week session this year! Programs are made possible through partnerships with the Children’s Services Council of Broward County (CSC) and the Lawrence J. & Florence A. De George Charitable Trust. This year a total of 1,140 Club members participated in the Maximizing Out of School Time (MOST) and i-ready programs delivered by Broward County School Board Certified Teachers that are designed to reduce summer learning loss among youth.

Brandon Knight Skills Clinic 2017

For the 7th consecutive year, the former two-time Florida Mr. Basketball, former NBA Lottery Pick, current star of the Phoenix Suns and BGCBC Alumnus, Brandon Knight, hosted his annual skills clinic at his alma mater Pine Crest High School in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. This venture allowed members of the Boys & Girls Club to attend a top-notch clinic FREE due to Brandon’s tenure as a Club kid at the Levine/Slaughter Boys & Girls Club.

Ft. Lauderdale Selected For Soar With Reading Program!

In 2011 Jet Blue launched Soar With Reading to encourage kids’ imaginations to take flight through reading and get books into the hands of kids who need them. Nan Knox Club members attended the program launch at Joseph Carter Park where they, not only, received books but Jet Blue backpacks and other goodies.

Classes were each led by a BGCBC corporate board member: Todd Paton, President of Paton Marketing; Linda Buccilli, Growth and Development Director for Northwestern Mutual; and Michael Rodriguez, Vice President of New Projects for JAE Restaurant Group.

Teens Experience Adulthood During Reality Store Event

More than 100 BGCBC teens participating in the SkillsUSA, MoneyMatters and CareerLaunch programs, part of BGCBC's Workforce Development Initiative, prepared for real world experiences during the Reality Store event. Reality Store provides an interactive experience in which youth learn how the choices they make regarding career, managing income and expenses, and saving and investing will affect future outcomes.
