MAINTENANCE ENGINEER POSITION (BROWARD COUNTY)

Full time, year round position, working throughout Broward County at various Boys & Girls Clubs facilities completing work orders and assuring the Clubs assigned are in proper working order with minimum disruption to the flow of staff and Club members. Must demonstrate professionalism at all times.

Position requires a broad base of knowledge in all building-related areas of repairs and/or maintenance, including but not limited to: 

  • Plumbing: Repair fixtures, faucets, shut off valves, drainage, etc.
  • Electrical: replace light bulbs, ballasts, back-up batteries and repair fan fixtures, light fixtures, switches, and receptacles, etc.
  • Carpentry: build and repair wall framing, door hanging and sheetrock installations, rough to finish including repairs to partitions, cabinets, platforms, tables, and all game tables, etc.
  • Glazing: Minor glass and window repairs
  • HVAC: Basic A/C repairs and maintenance
  • Installation and replacement of ceiling and floor tiles; 
  • Wall repair: including plaster, sand and paint. 
  • Irrigation System: repair ruptured sprinkler lines, replace damaged spray heads and reset sprinkler timer and programming as needed
  • Locksmithing; repair and replace door locks, door handles, hydraulic door closers, and door hardware, etc.
  • Warehouse: moving, storage, and inventory tracking, including the upkeep of the maintenance shop area.
  • Automotive: Minor van repair and maintenance

JOB SEGMENTS:

  • Keep detailed records of work orders and activities in a daily log. 
  • Document and report potential safety hazards and report to supervisor. 
  • Perform monthly inspections of Clubs and report building-related discrepancies to supervisor in writing. 
  • Order parts or materials when authorized and requested to do so by supervisor.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas. 
  • Perform all other duties assigned or needed.
  • Must be willing to assist in special events and adjust your schedule accordingly. 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS ETC: 

  • Position requires a high school diploma/GED or completion of military service with honorable discharge; and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and building maintenance experience. 
  • An AA degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance a plus; 
  • Minimum of five (5) years demonstrated experience working and repair experience in all building trades at an intermediate level or above, to include Air Conditioning, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, wall and floor repairs.
  • Verifiable building trades work experience of five (5) or more years, certifications appropriate to the skills, EPA A/C Certificate required. 
  • Must by highly motivated and able to work independently and in teams as needed.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

High energy level, and comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities. 

Employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, heavier weight necessary at times. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

Skills essential for successful communications include good listening, speaking and writing skills. Must have ability to get along with diverse personalities; at all times displaying tact, maturity and flexibility, good reasoning abilities and sound judgment.

Must pass company paid level 2 background screening (fingerprinting), drug screening and have a clean driving record.

GRANT ACCOUNTING CLERK (FT. LAUDERDALE)

Grant Accounting Clerk needed by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. The primary responsibility will be to prepare and gather data required for the timely reporting of Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County grants. Activities include confirming proper signatures, verifying that work is properly reported by the employees for the grant; copying and collating data with a high degree of accuracy. High degree of confidentiality and adherence to internal controls is needed. The Grant Accounting Clerk reports directly to the Director of Accounting.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles; technology skills, including computer operations, spreadsheet and word processing with a high degree of accuracy; good grammar, strong customer service skills and strong attention to details are required. Bachelor degree in Accounting or related field preferred. Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge, SAPP, Great Plains or similar accounting software required. Previous Not-for-Profit experience helpful.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Collect and record data for weekly and monthly financial reporting in Excel; review documentation for completeness, accuracy, reasonableness, authorization, and coding
  • Create invoices for grants as required
  • Reconcile all grant accounts to the General Ledger
  • Coordinate with others on each proposed grant prior to submission, obtain needed signatures
  • Maintain all grant contracts and documents at submission, keep a record of each grant awarded and rejected.
  • Maintain computerized Grant files and set up and maintain Grant folders

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides auditors with schedules, documents, and assistance
  • Reconciliation of all bank accounts
  • Enter new constituents in Raiser's Edge
  • Post annual budget to Financial Edge
  • Assist with Account Payable filing
  • Verifying employee timecards bi-weekly, for accuracy
  • Attend fundraising events
  • Performs other clerical functions as needed 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The duties above indicate the essential functions of the job. Job is physically comfortable; requiring a good deal of time sitting in one location. Job occasionally requires stooping bending; some light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper or office supplies up to 20 pounds may be required. Some local travel is required. Carver Ranches Unit

SWIM INSTRUCTOR/LIFEGUARD
You are needed NOW for part time position 8am - 1pm on weekdays during the school year on an on-call basis. Swim instructors will run a safe and FUN swimming program that teaches children to swim, and to assist with pre-post tests and skills teaching.

Part time hours available now, with additional hours available (up to 40 hrs a week) in the summer time.

  • Must have current lifeguard certification, current CPR/AED training and First Aid.
  • Higher rate available for WSI certified lifeguards.
  • Effective communication skills, superior interpersonal abilities including the ability to get along with diverse personalities, and display tact, maturity, and flexibility are needed for this position.
  • Experience working with children, good reasoning abilities and sound judgment are also needed.
  •  Swim Central experience a plus.
  • Must have own transportation.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure safety of swimmers and assist in classes and other activities conducted in the swimming pool.
  • Enforce all pool rules, assist with swimming classes and tests, assume responsibility in absence of Aquatics Program Supervisor; help organize games and special events in pool.
  • Observe all safety precautions at all times, including ensuring that boys and girls shower and are clean before swimming.
  • A safe and fun swimming program that teaches all non-swimmers how to swim.

PE ASSISTANT
We are searching for an energetic and enthusiastic individual with a background in sports and fitness. Must be able to plan and conduct activities and have working knowledge of sports and be capable of officiating athletic events. We are seeking an adult with experience working with youth 6-18 years old. Part time position M-F, 3p – 8p, rotating Saturdays from 11a – 3p, non-school days from 9a – 5p.
