Director of Teen Initiatives

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives

GENERAL FUNCTION: 

The primary responsibility of the Director of Teen Initiatives is to oversee the core programs of the Clubs for members ages 13-18 by ensuring that staff are planning, developing, and implementing programs and activities that support the organizations standards. This includes managing all related educational and career exploratory activities at the Club such as coordinating field trips, collaborating with colleges, universities, and vocational/technical schools, identifying careers and other duties as assigned.  

Program Management & Performance

  • Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. Maintain close relationships with administrative personnel.
  • Ensure the creation and implementation of fun and exciting activities that inspire participation
  • Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities
  • Mobilize members to attend selected workshops and career/college fairs
  • Secure program materials from different institutions and develop reward and recognition systems for consistent participation
  • Survey members to assess members’ needs
  • Maintain discipline and adherence to BGCBC rules
  • Develop a positive atmosphere among members toward achieving long term academic success
  • Secure guest speakers introducing different careers to members
  • Manage/Coordinate field trips related to careers and job shadowing
  • Manage/Coordinate college and career fairs
  • Manage/Coordinate college tours 
  • Manage/Coordinate College & Career Corner Program
  • Manage College Corner advisors 
  • Manage/Coordinate the Generals Club Program including Generals Construction Career Day, career speakers and construction field trips
  • Supervise and manage all event staff
  • Manage/Coordinate Annual Career Day 
  • Supervise and manage all event staff 
  •  Manage/Coordinate Career Launch – A Day at Broward College 
  • Supervise and manage all event staff 
  • Manage/Coordinate the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County Scholarship programs
  • Work with KidTrax Coordinator to complete the annual senior report
  • Compile list of BGCBC Alumni list with education and career information 
  • Work with members to identify different career opportunities
  • Manage/Coordinate SAT Prep Program activities
  • Manage/Coordinate Workforce Development Programs
  • Bring your “A” Game, Career Launch and Money Matters
  • Coordinate workforce development presentations and interviews for qualifying Club Members 
  • Follow-up with Club Directors, employed Club Members and workforce partners  
  • Coordinate career tours with workforce development partners 
  • Assist Grants and Development Manager with writing grants that fund career and education programs 
  • Design and oversee Grant funded programs as needed 
  • Manage and oversee the Youth of the Year program 
  • Maintain accurate reporting (administrative)
  • Identify all Club Members grades 8 through 12 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education/ Recreation or a related field preferred, suitable prior work experience may be substituted in lieu of education at the discretion of BGCBC Management; and possess a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a full-time position working with youth.
  • Must have a current First Aid/CPR Certificate.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a CDL.
  • Ability to interact with diverse personalities, at all-time displaying tact, maturity, and flexibility; and the ability to address and de-escalate crisis.
  • Must be knowledgeable about secondary and post-secondary schools and technical/vocational programs.
  • Must have knowledge about training, professional salaries, and projected employment needs for members.  
  • Ability to work well with adolescents, providing empathy, guidance, coaching and mentoring skills, using good reasoning ability and sound judgment

The duties above indicate the essential functions of the job. Job is physically comfortable; some local travel is required. Successfully communicate through speaking, writing and reading with comprehension.
