The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County and Best Buy hosted the Best Buy Geek Squad Academy on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Leo Goodwin Teen Center and the Levine/Slaughter Boys & Girls Club. During the academy, over 100 Members, ages 10 – 18, learned how to create technology through fun, interactive workshops. Club members also learned about circuits, robotics, programming and how to create digital music and websites.
The purpose of the camp is to encourage young people to create and use technology in new and different ways, such as creating their own website, app or software program.
During different sessions, Best Buy Associates showed club members how to navigate a BB8 robot through an obstacle course and how to create digital music using computer programs. Club members even got to share their creations with their peers with the assistance of headphones.
BGCBC would like to thank BGCBC Board Member and General Manager for Best Buy , Ryan Seymour, for offering this opportunity to our young people! BGCBC would also like to thank long-time supporter and Corporate Board Member, Jamie McDonnell for providing the lunch through his company, DelVecchio's Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant!
