The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County (BGCBC) held its annual Fine Arts Exhibition on February 7 and was hosted by BBX Capital at their headquarters in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Our gracious host BBX Capital, along with BGCBC Board Member Lois Marino who helped coordinate the event, provided our guests with cool refreshments, while Hoffman’s Chocolate set out an array of colorful and delicious candies and chocolates. A total of sixty pieces in four age groups and six categories were submitted, judged and placed on display. Five judges with experience in the arts served as judges for the event: Corporate Board member Peter Woolf, Corporate Board member Lois Marino, artist Robyn Vega, artist Neolita Maharaj, and artist Luigi Bourt. All first place winners will go on to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s regional Fine Arts Exhibition.
Over 100 Boys & Girls Club members attended the exhibition and were in awe of both the eye-catching art and the beautiful office building. Nine-year-old Skky L., of the Carver Ranches Unit, was in tears when she realized she was awarded first place in the Multicolored Drawing category. Skky has been a member since 2016 and has entered multiple exhibitions, but this was her first time winning an award for her art. Club members who came to view the art commented to our Club staff about how excited they were to be inside a professional office building. On the surface, this program gives our young artists an opportunity to participate in a national arts program; but the true beauty of this program is that the experience opens the door for both our artists and spectators to explore a world of possibilities.
We would like to thank BBX Capital and Hoffman’s Chocolates for hosting this event, and to all our judges who had the toughest job of all.
