BGCBC Members Get a Taste of College Life During Summer College Tour

On Tuesday, July 24th, 2018, 10 Club Members and two staff left for the first North Florida College Tour. These Club Members visited the University of Central Florida, the University of Florida, Florida State University, and Florida A&M University. They explored campus life and the surrounding cities, spoke with current students about their experience, and toured research facilities.

For a lot of the Members, this free experience is crucial to their college application process as this is the first time they traveled outside of Broward County. The Club Members spent a month in preparation for the trip by researching each school, scholarships for which they are eligible, and future career paths all through Naviance – the online program that helps teens prepare for life after high school. The members returned ready to tackle their college applications and career goals.

“This trip has opened my eyes to show me that there are some places where I could see myself fitting in well. I plan on applying to the University of Florida, University of Central Florida and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University”, said Tiana B., BGCBC member.

This trip was made possible by a grant received from The Hartford.  The Hartford supports and serves in the communities where they live and work.  Thank you to The Hartford!
