Coke Essay Contest
In February, Coca Cola Beverages Florida sponsored a Black History Month art and essay contest for all of our Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County members. Club members ages 6-10 submitted works of art of an African American who inspire them, while members ages 11-18 submitted an essay of someone who inspires them.
Judges had a difficult time deciding who the winners were. First place for the 6-10 year old category went to Jahai T. of the Reitman Club. He painted astronaut, Guy Buford. First place for ages 11-13 went to Merlac J of the Moran Club, who wrote about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. First place for ages 16-18 went to Brianna C. of the Leo Goodwin Teen Center and wrote about her mother who is an inspiration to her.
Coca-Cola Beverages Florida hosted a pizza party for 1st place winners at their Hollywood distribution center. Each winner shared why they chose their specific hero and received a laptop. Alexus M., our newly selected Youth of the Year for Broward County, was also invited and received a laptop as well. Second and third place winners received a Coke swag bag.
We would like to thank Begone Cazalis, Manager of Public Affairs and Community, and the entire Coke team for this amazing opportunity for our Club members and their support of our organization. Coca-Beverages Florida CEO, Troy Taylor, is no stranger to the Boys & Girls Club, as he is a Club alumnus and serves on the Boys & Girls Club Florida state Board of Directors.
