Dr. Harold Reitman Club Becomes a Work of Art

On April 25, city officials, BGCBC staff and Board Members gathered together at the Dr. Harold Reitman Boys & Girls Club for a special dedication. The Broward County Cultural Division commissioned a local artist to paint a mural on the outside of the Dr. Harold Reitman Boys & Girls Club on West Broward Blvd.  Boys and Girls Club of Broward County provided artist Elio Mercado with an eye opening experience.  Elio created a mural that encompassed all the principals that the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County offers through their programs.   Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County creates a safe haven for the community’s youth and follows a core program of academic success, good character, and healthy lifestyle. Mercado’s vision was to create a design that embraced all aspects of the Club while at the same time sparking inspiration to community visitors and passersby. The result was a series of images that set out to “inspire people to be more than what they can dream up”. The project was more than just another commission for the artist.  As a South Florida native, Mercado’s involvement meant a lot in the contribution towards the community he knows so well. “It’s great when an artist can be a part of the evolving positive changes that happen in our community.”

You can see the artist Elio Mercado’s work at the Dr. Harold Reitman Boys & Girls Club located at 3025 W. Broward Blvd in Ft. Lauderdale.
