The Hartford Supports BGCBC with Grant Funding for College & Career Readiness Programs
The College and Career Center powered by the Hartford Grant has greatly impacted the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County’s Leo Goodwin Teen Center. The grant has allowed the organization to provide more college and career readiness activities for teen members. Members at the Leo Goodwin Teen Center participated in Career Launch – a program that helps prepare young people for college and work; The Teen Center hosted Money Matters – a financial literacy program that teaches young people about budgets, savings and checking accounts as well as building and maintaining credit. The College and Career Center also hosted workforce development presentations with WaWa, Taco Bell, and Wendy’s Restaurants.
The Leo Goodwin Teen Center also hosted the #WeOwnFriday event for all BGCBC teens. The event was an opportunity to engage the teens by offering activities including basketball, recording studio time, and a dance. The Hartford grant has allowed BGCBC to serve more teens more often. We are thankful for Boys & Girls Clubs of America for the opportunity to engage more teens in college and career programs along with fun events while building teen membership.
