On Thursday, March 22nd, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County (BGCBC) lost a beloved longtime supporter, friend and advocate of our youth, H. Wayne Huizenga.  Wayne joined the BGCBC family in 1979, and quickly became involved in various special events and initiatives throughout our organization.

When Wayne joined the BGCBC family, the organization consisted of only 3 Clubs serving 3,000 boys (boys only at that time) in the community annually.  Through Wayne’s tenure, he witnessed and actively participated in the growth of the BGCBC where we currently have 12 Clubs serving over 12,500 youth annually. Wayne’s approach in business was the same as being a leader for our clubs. As he would say; “Some people dream of success, while other people get up every morning and make it happen”. He and Marti certainly helped to make great things happen for our members.

“Wayne will be missed but he will never be forgotten”, said Brian Quail, President/CEO. “We are honored to have received the trust and confidence that H. Wayne, Marti and the entire Huizenga family placed in us to serve the youth of Broward County”.

Today, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County is one of the largest Boys & Girls Clubs organizations in the country and it is without a doubt in part due to the efforts of Wayne and Marti.

In 2006, Wayne and Marti were inducted into the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County’s Dream Makers Society, which recognizes lifelong donors who have contributed in excess of one million dollars.  In 2011, Wayne was presented with the Automotive Lifetime Achievement award at the Boys & Girls Clubs Concours d’ Elegance Event. His 40 years of service has touched every area of our organization, along with countless lives, adult and young people alike. Today, the Boys & Girls Clubs Administrative Office Campus is respectively named “The H. Wayne & Marti Huizenga Campus” , along with the Marti Huizenga Club that serves the youth in the City of Hollywood.
