Summer Programs that Make Kids AND Parents Happy

Things have accelerated fast. Not only is summer upon us and the school year winding down, the COVID-19 restrictions are being drastically reduced, which also likely means less time working remotely from home and less time having direct interaction with the kids. Happily, there is no reason to panic, as The Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County are also getting ready to launch their well-considered, developmentally vital summer programs for kids.

Whichever direction you choose for your children, be it for the promotion of a healthier lifestyle, the development of good character and citizenship, or a focus on academic success, you should take heart in knowing that The Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County have been serving your South Florida community for over 55 years. We have seen a few summers come and go, and cannot wait to help your family shine through this one…

Healthy Lifestyles

The goals of our healthy lifestyles’ programs are to help today’s youth engage in *positive* behaviors that nurture their own well-beings. We encourage them to set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults with such programs as:

  • The Snack & Supper Program – A free nutritious snack and supper to every member Monday thru Saturday, introducing them to new, healthy foods that they will continue to incorporate into their adult diets.

  • Physical Fitness – Athletic programs that build aerobic endurance and strength, as well as promoting teamwork and fair play. Leagues include basketball, flag football, and cheerleading for all ages, letting them learn about different sports while also working with team members.

Good Character & Citizenship

We want your kids to not only feel empowered, but to support and influence their Club and Community, primarily by sustaining meaningful relationships with others and developing a positive self-image. We encourage participation in the democratic process, and the development of a healthy respect for their culture and the cultures of others. We do this via:

  • The Keystone Club – They will gain valuable leadership and service experience thru academic success, career exploration, and community service.

  • The Torch Club – We meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents with activities promoting Club and Community, Education, Health and Fitness, and Social Recreation.

  • Youth of the Year (Sponsored by Disney) – Recognizing club members ages 14-18, promoting and celebrating service to the Club, Community, and Family, plus academic performance; moral character; life goals; poise and public speaking. Each year, one local Youth of the Year is named from the finalists chosen at each of our 12 clubs.

Academic Success

Here we administer the basic educational disciplines. We apply learning to everyday situations, encourage the embracing of technology to help achieve a successfully carrier, and more. With:

  • Youth Education Services (Y.E.S.) – Our comprehensive academic success initiative, combining six different components (web-based reading and math, mentoring, supplemental activities like educational games, and more), all to meet the educational needs of at-risk youth.

  • Maximizing Out of School Time (M.O.S.T.) – Quality activities for ages 6-12 years, 1st – 5th grade – A productive and inspiring introduction to art, culture, science, and community service, all while boosting academic achievement, social and physical development, and strengthening their relationship with their families, schools, and communities.

All That Plus Fundraising

Mark your calendar for July 18th, 3-6PM, for our 10th Annual “Bowling for Kids” Tournament, at Sparez Bowling in Davie. Tell your friends, coworkers, and boss that individual donations receive 2 games, shoe rental, pizza, and soda, while “lane sponsorships” receive their company logo featured on the lane screens, product promotion opportunities, in addition to the bowling, shoe rentals, pizza and sodas for up to 6 people. And there are more expansive sponsorship opportunities still (see brochure here).

Being honest, it has been a tough year (plus) for a lot of folks. We can help the boys and girls and *you* feel some sort of return to normal this summer.
