Social Recreation Coordinator

 

REPORTS TO: Club Director or Program Manager

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Social Recreation Coordinator is directly responsible to the Club Director or Program Manager. His/Her areas of responsibility are centered around specific program components as indicated in the job description.

KNOW HOW:

TECHNICAL:

- Ability to interpret goals and objectives of the Boys & Girls Clubs.

- Ability to plan, publicize, organize, and conduct recreational activities, tournaments, games, leagues, and special events, etc.

- Ability to prepare written plans for program activities including: goals, mechanics, needs, and cost projections.

- Have knowledge of emergency First Aid and CPR.

- Possess knowledge of child development stages and their relations to programming.

 

MANAGERIAL:

- Ability to supervise, train, and motivate staff and volunteers in your department.

- Ability to present a professional image to the community.

- Ability to utilize program evaluation and activity forms.

- Ability to plan, delegate, and follow-up on projects.

- Possess ability to think creatively in the development and implementation of new programs.

- Stimulate interest and participation in community and cultural events.

- Assist in staff training if requested to do so.

- Recommend and requisition supplies for areas of responsibility.

- Provide leadership in the development of new programs.

- Assist in special projects as the need arises. (i.e. Fund raising, Summer sessions, and other organizational special events).

- Manage all grants and deliverables relevant to the club.

JOB SEGMENTS:

- Assist Club Director and Program Manager in planning and organizing the programs of the Club.

- Making periodic reports to the Club Director.

- Maintaining Bulletin Board for areas responsible for and posting general health and hygiene related information.

- Stimulate interest and participation in Community events.

- Assist in training of Club Staff.

- Assume management of facility in the absence of the Club Director and Program Manager. ( As directed)

- Recommend and requisition supplies for areas of responsibility.

- Provide leadership in the development of new programs.

- Assist in special projects as the need arises. (i.e. fundraising, Summer session, and other organizational Special Events).

 

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR SUPERVISION AND DEVELOPMENT:

1. Plan, organize, publicize, and conduct (if necessary) programs in Games room, Library, Arts & Crafts, Computer Room, or Physical Ed. Department.

2. Organize educational/cultural/recreational and social special events.

3. Develop a new member’s orientation program on a monthly basis and provide continuous contact with parents and local schools, if requested to do so.

4. Organize and conduct scheduled skill clinics for billiards, table tennis, and other major sports.

5. Conduct rules clinics for other club staff and members, on various recreational games.

6. Develop at least 5 programs for teenagers and pre-teenagers from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

7. Organize and supervise playground activities.

8. Plan, promote, and conduct a college for a day program with local colleges and universities.

9. Assist with the Boys & Girls Clubs Summer session Program, if requested to do so.

10. Maintain accurate program records and make sure monthly statistical records are given to supervisor.

11. Assist with the planning, promoting, and conducting of Physical Ed. Department Special Events, if requested to do so.

12. Assume the responsibility for the Smart Moves Program (Dental Clinic), and other contracted programs, if requested to do so.

13. Develop a weekly Girls Talk Program/Boys Talk Program and Co-ed Group Club.

14. Assist with other Boys & Girls Club activities/special events if requested to do so.

15. Implement the Performing Arts Program.

In addition to the specific professional job duties Social Recreation Coordinator must also possess the ability to:

• Access facility needs and perform janitorial duties, mopping, cleaning walls, bathrooms, etc.

• Perform minor maintenance: change light bulbs, ceiling tiles, hanging posters, painting, and sports equipment.

• Move throughout activity area without disrupting youth traffic flow and activities.

• Perform CPR and First Aid techniques.

• Handle a variety of tasks at one time correctly.

• Recognize and react quickly to problems, challenges and quickly stop undesirable activity (arguing, fighting, horseplay, etc.).

• Supervise activity either inside or outside.

• Assist children with homework.

• Work in any department within Club on an emergency basis, especially the game room at an acceptable performance level to maintain a safe environment.

• Drive organization vehicles, such as 15 passenger vans, busses, etc.

• Manage Club Finances to understand and work within department budgets.

• Communicate in person, on the telephone and in print.

• Take members on field trips and provide direct supervision of assigned members at places like museums, zoos, waterslide parks, Lion Country Safari, etc.

• Work in non-air conditioned or heated facilities and provide supervision on outdoor playgrounds.

• Immediately correct safety concerns, (water on floor, equipment not stored correctly, doors left unlocked, etc.)

• Answer telephone and communicate with caller in a professional and effective manner.

• Pick up needed supplies from stores and bring to Club.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of one year’s experience in a full time position working with children.

A current commercial driver’s license (CDL) is preferred (or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment) as well as maintenance of a safe driving record.

A certificate of First Aid and CPR is required.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIRMENTS

High energy level required, must be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities. Must possess superior interpersonal abilities; ability to get along with diverse personalities, at all times displaying tact, maturity, flexibility and professionalism. Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment are also required.

Position requirements include:

• Walking–constantly required to walk (for up to 4 hours) on the floor during peak hours and rotating throughout the Club as needed

• Talking – constantly required to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word (conducting staff meetings, guiding staff, meeting with members and parents, etc.)

• Hearing – frequently required to work in a loud environment (especially in the gym and games rooms with the combined sounds of children and game equipment.)

• Sight – position requires both close and distance visual acuity for computer work and monitoring children

• Standing – occasionally required to stand for sustained periods of time (related to Club and Organizational events.)

• Sitting – occasionally required to sit for up to 2 hours

• Bending – occasionally required to bend (picking items up off of the floor, removing food items from the fridge and warming oven, etc.)

• Pushing & pulling – occasionally required to push & pull (sweeping, cleaning floors with push brooms, etc.)

• Fingering – occasionally required to type for extended periods of time (answering emails, writing reports, creating program documents, etc.)

• Lifting – occasionally required to lift/move items up to 50 pounds.

• Skills essential for successful communication include speaking and writing.

• Worker will be subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.

 

EFFECT ON END RESULTS:

Shall be measured by such terms as growth in membership, program development, member participation, and overall demonstrations of responsibility in the position of Social Recreation Coordinator. Specific accountability will be further evidenced through the use of meeting established goals and annual evaluation process as determined by the administration, employee, and his/her immediate supervisor. Accomplishment of these goals will have a direct effect on the success of the employee and the results of his/her evaluation.

Health & Physical Education Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Health & Physical Education Coordinator is directly responsible to the Program Manager. His/Her areas of responsibility are centered on specific program components as indicated in the Job Description. In the absence of the Club Director and Program Manager, he/she may assume full responsibility for the operation of the Club.

KNOW HOW:

TECHNICAL:

  • Interpret goals and objectives of the Boys & Girls Club

  • Display tact, maturity, and flexibility at all times
  • CPR and First Aid certification required
