Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County 2018 Scholarship Dinner

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County celebrated 38 exceptional young men and women during the Annual Scholarship Dinner on Wednesday, July 17 at the Westin Fort Lauderdale.
The event honored graduating seniors who received the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County Nan Knox Scholarship – an award named in honor of Nancy (Nan) Knox, a long-time BGCBC supporter. Club Members will receive $500 per year if they attend a college or university in Broward, Miami-Dade or Palm Beach counties.
Recipients will receive $1,000 per year if they decide to attend school north of Palm Beach County. BGCBC also awarded three (3) Stanley G. Tate Broward College Prepaid Scholarships.
This scholarship will cover up to 72 credit hours at Broward College. The recipients are Jamal Jackson, David Bolivar and Richard Canto. Kitty Rotella, the wife of long-time board member and avid supporter, Gary Rotella who passed away in 2015, presented the Gary Rotella Stars Prepaid Scholarship to two (2) deserving young people. The 4-Year Gary Rotella Stars Prepaid Scholarship is being awarded to An'tinyahBarbary who is attending Broward College. The 2-Year Gary Rotella Stars Prepaid Scholarship is being awarded to Latraya Abdul-Halim who is attending Broward College.
Raquel Case, the daughter of Rick & Rita Case presented the Rick Case Scholarship at Nova Southeastern University. The Rick Case Scholarship will cover all tuition and fees at Nova Southeastern University for four (4) years. The recipients are: Demerius Augustin, Tiana Baker, Jasmin McIver and Nayeli Burgos. Other scholarships awarded during the dinner included the Gormley Family Scholarship – an award for two Members of the Dr. Harold Reitman Club worth $1,000 per year for four (4) years; the Dennis M. Sutton Memorial Scholarship Fund for a one-time award of $500 and the Lewis & Virigina Oglive Scholarship Fund for a one-time award of $500.
Scholarship recipients are planning to attend Florida International University, Broward College, Alabama State University, Pennsylvania College of Technology, Atlantic Tech College, Barry University, Florida A&M University, University of Advancing Technology, SAE Institute and Nova Southeastern University. During the Scholarship Awards Ceremony each Member was called to the front of the room to receive their scholarship certificate(s), presented by Brian Quail, President/CEO of BGCBC and take pictures with Board Members Peter Woolf, Dr. Douglas Laurie, John Clidas, Harry Stampler and Phil Chrysler.
