New BGCBC Program, SkillsUSA, Certifies Teens in Customer Service
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County introduced the Skills USA program through the support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The purpose of Skills USA is to teach Club Members about effective customer service skills. The program runs for 10 weeks and includes a quiz and final assessment to test the Member’s knowledge and understanding of the program principles. Once the Members pass, they receive a certificate that is recognized by Lowe’s and Toyota Corporations.
The Members learn about core customer service skills, communication skills, workplace etiquette and professionalism, problem solving skills, time management, and sales and customer retention through fun and interactive on-line modules.
101 BGCBC teens ages 15-18 participated in the program and took the final assessment. Ninety-six percent of teens passed the final assessment thus earning their Skills USA Customer Service Proficiency Certificate.
Teen Club Members who earned 85 percent or higher have the opportunity to interview and get a job with Wendy’s Restaurant as well as other workforce development partners.
The Skills USA program is BGCBC’s effort to implement a more strategic workforce strategy that helps teens get and maintain a job. We thank BGCA and our workforce development partners for their support!
